## Product purpose

JSON for Sheets lets spreadsheet users paste JSON, open a local .json file, read JSON from a cell, or make public and authenticated API requests, then preview the fields and rows and insert structured columns without writing a script. It supports local JSON formulas, a visual API request builder, encrypted bearer/API-key/Basic connections, spreadsheet-cell variables, safe cURL import, pagination, saved imports, scheduled refresh, nested-array handling, and table-to-JSON export. Remote responses are fetched fresh and are not cached.

## Identity and privacy

JSON for Sheets is a separate Google OAuth application with its own live Marketplace listing, distinct from other Google Workspace add-ons. The product uses Google identity through Supabase, while its access, plans, usage, and data remain product-specific. The add-on requests identity and email, access to the currently open spreadsheet, explicit per-file access for user-enabled schedules, container UI, external requests, and schedule-trigger management. Google Picker requires the user to select the current spreadsheet before a scheduled job may reopen that file. It does not search Drive, access non-Sheets Drive content, Gmail, contacts, or calendars. JSON for Sheets has no AI/ML features or integrations. It does not call third-party AI/ML providers, multi-model services, gateways, model hubs, downstream models, or self-hosted or offline models. It never transfers raw, aggregated, anonymized, or derived Google Workspace data to an AI/ML service and does not use Google user data to create, train, fine-tune, evaluate, or improve AI/ML models. The privacy policy is the canonical source for data-handling details.

The import guide documents a live, reproducible workflow using `https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users`: open the add-on, choose Public URL, preview the response, select `id`, `name`, `email`, `address.city`, and `company.name`, then write the table.

The local-file guide documents the From file workflow using a downloadable `orders.json` example. It shows eight detected fields, seven selected output columns, joined nested-array values, the explicit overwrite confirmation, and the finished six-row table. Local files up to 5 MB are read inside the add-on session, are not uploaded to JSON for Sheets servers, and do not use a remote-fetch allowance. All guide screenshots were captured from the working add-on in Google Sheets rather than generated mockups.

The API integration guide documents a reproducible GET request to `https://dummyjson.com/products` with `limit=8`, a field-selection query, and the `products` root path. The live result contains eight rows and six columns.
